Being part of a caregiver group is important as it provides emotional, social, and practical support to anyone who is in the role of a caregiver.
We run a regular carers support group that provides not just emotional support but also a sense of belonging. It enables carers to connect with others facing the same challenges and experiences of caring for someone with dementia. This can help alleviate feelings of isolation and loneliness, making each member feel valued and cared for.
Emotional Support
A carers group offers a safe space to express feelings and frustrations, which is essential for mental health. Sharing with others who empathise and understand can be incredibly cathartic. Being with others who truly "get it" can be validating and reassuring.
It is quite normal to feel guilt, frustration, and sadness, and sharing these feelings with others who have similar experiences can be comforting and affirming.
Practical Support
Our carers group offers the opportunity to exchange practical tips and strategies for caregiving. We can help with ideas around navigating the support and resources you might be able to access. Plus, valuable information on caregiving, legal rights, and self-care tips.
Social Interaction and Friendship
Long-term caregiving can be very limiting for social interactions. Our carers' group means you can access a place to build friendships and connections, which are vital your overall well-being. You will feel understood and accepted, it’s a supportive community that uplifts its members.
Our group is a place where many have found a sense of community and belonging.
Forming friendships with others in similar situations builds a network of support, fostering a supportive environment.
The group provides:
A space for sharing successes.
Uplifting each other.
Providing that all-important encouragement during difficult times.
Our group not only offers practical support but also empowers caregivers who are navigating this stage of their lives.
One of our members shared their thoughts on the group -
““I am so thankful for the two weekly carers group zoom meetings hosted by Reminiscence Learning. One is a light-hearted get together where we just have fun to take our minds off any worries for a short time. The second is more serious where we can share things that are troubling us in confidence, in a safe, secure place. We seem to have been in lockdown forever, but these friendly carers group meetings are very special and it is so good to have other people to talk too.”
