MORE INFORMATION

We have tried to cover all the anticipated questions but if your question is not answered here do get in touch.
Call our office at Reminiscence Learning on 01823 668676.

1. What is the Jail Break Charity Event?

The Jail Break is a fun and immersive fundraising event where participants experience a prisoner’s day at Shepton Mallet Prison. It includes a prisoner experience, an escape room challenge and lunch. It will raise vital funds for Reminiscence Learning, which supports people with dementia.

2. How does the event raise money?

Participants are “locked up” and must raise a “bail” of at least £250 by asking friends, family, or colleagues to sponsor them. The money raised goes directly to Reminiscence Learning. This is done via a Just Giving Page which participants will set up prior to attending the event and you are able to start raising your bail as soon as you have registered.

3. Who can take part in the event?

The event is open to any individuals aged 18 and over provided they are in good physical and mental health. Unfortunately, due to the age of the prison building and the facilities the event may not be suitable for those with certain medical conditions or mobility issues.

4. Health and Safety

Your health and safety is our top priority. All activities are supervised by trained staff from Shepton Mallet prison who have first aid qualifications, and the event follows strict safety guidelines. Participants are required to follow instructions at all times to ensure their safety and the safety of others. You will have access to private toilets throughout the day, and we will ensure you keep hydrated!

5. What should I bring?

Please bring one bag labelled with your name and include the following:

  • Comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for light physical activities. (You will have a prison jumpsuit to put over the top)

  • A water bottle or bottle of water.

  • Any personal medication you may need.

  • Your laptop, phone and/or tablet to help you contact people to raise your bail money!

  • There is a light buffet served early evening and for our overnight jailbirds a breakfast. Please advise on your registration form of any dietary requirements.

  • If you are staying overnight, please bring a mattress (blow up or similar is fine), pillows and a sleeping bag and anything else you might need for your overnight stay. You might need to bring some warm clothing as you will be sleeping in a cell.

6. What happens if I can’t raise enough bail money?

We encourage all participants to do their best to raise the minimum target, but don’t worry our team can provide tips and advice to help you hit your goal.

7. Do I need to stay for the whole event?

Yes, the event is designed as a full experience, and participants are expected to stay until the end. However, if you have raised your bail and need to leave early that is fine!

8. Is there a cost to participate?

The registration fee is £55 to cover the costs of the event and to commit you to participate. Spaces are limited and to plan the event we need to know who is attending. The form and payment must be made to confirm your place. The primary goal is to raise your bail money for the charity. The overnight experience is £110.

10. What if I have accessibility requirements?

Unfortunately, due to the age of the building for this event we will be unable to accommodate those with accessibility needs.

11. What kind of challenges will I face?

The event includes light physical and mental challenges such as an escape room, role-playing as prisoners, and team-based activities. Don’t worry it’s all designed to be fun and engaging rather than overly physically demanding. The building does have a lot of stairs and uneven ground, so wear shoes and clothes designed for activity.

12. What happens if I register and I can’t attend on the day?

If you can’t make it, please notify us as soon as possible. Unfortunately, registration fees will not be refundable due to event costs being paid to Shepton Mallet, but your fundraising efforts will still benefit the charity.

13. How will my fundraising be used?

All money raised will go directly to Reminiscence Learning, helping to support people with dementia and their caregivers.

14. Is there parking available?

There is a pay and display parking is available near to Shepton Mallet Prison. Great Ostry Car Park (post code BA4 5DB) which is 300m away or Commercial Road Car Park 600m away (post code BA4 5FQ).

15. Do i have to use the toilet in the cell?

No, you will have access to private toilets outside of the cells!

16. Can I share my experience on social media?

We will be encouraging participants to share their experience to raise awareness and boost fundraising efforts. Use the hashtag #RLJAILBREAK and tag us at @ReminiscenceLearning on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. More information will be shared about this upon registration.
